The Crisis Management Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is responsible for the assessment of a situation before and during crises both in the Republic of Cyprus (RoC) and overseas.

The handling and management of critical situations may be carried out in collaboration with other bodies (government, semi-government, private and other civil society organisations) at the Crisis Management Centre. Therefore, for this purpose, the Crisis Management Department organises crisis management exercises annually, both on a national and a European level. In addition, the Department continuously contacts and collaborates with the corresponding departments of the Member States of the European Union and the European External Action Service for the exchange of information and opinions, lessons to be learned, optimum practices and for handling critical situations.

All Services that may assist in the work of the Crisis Management Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are coordinated at the Crisis Management Centre of the MFA, which is fully equipped with all modern means of communication required in order to effectively handle crises.
In addition, the Crisis Management Centre hosts and staffs the National Operational-Crisis Management Centre, as defined in the Basic National Plan (BNP) (“Zenon”). BNP Zenon was approved by the Council of Ministers on 16 January 2013.
